ABOUT US
Rides, coffee, culture & schicke bikes
A backyard in the center of Dusseldorf. Bike shop, workshop and café under one roof. Our place of enthusiasm for bicycles. Authentic and passionate. We are the Mütze.
MÜTZENHEADS
A STORY
Before the Mütze existed, we just rode bikes together, actually old racing bikes. We tinkered, looked for parts, swapped them and made each other smart. The L'Eroica in Tuscany inspired us and with the Klassikerausfahrt we established one of the first regular events for classic racers in Europe. We competed in Belgium at the Retro Ronde and in France at the Anjou Velo Vintage. We were having so much fun with all of this that we wanted more of it, more bike, more road bike, more cycling. We wanted to spend more time infecting others with our passion. This is where the idea of the Schicke Mütze came from: Our meeting place, our shop, our workshop. Simply our place for the bike.
At the beginning we sometimes bumped over cobblestones, in between we rode a few bad passes and fell flat on our faces on descents. But because we love what we're doing here, we immediately get up, shake and carry on. We take it sporty.
Even if our roots are in the classic racers, our enthusiasm applies to all beautiful bikes, whether well-tried or modern is irrelevant. We never wanted the Mütze to be just retro, we wanted it to be timeless and classic. We appreciate steel as a high-quality material for bicycles, we like its durability and the craftsmanship of a well-made frame, but we have no qualms about titanium, aluminum or carbon. Every material has its use at the right time.
We offer selected racing bikes, single speeds, crossers and gravel racers, city bikes, cargo bikes, children's bikes, folding bikes. We build your individual project or we get you the right bike in every respect as a complete solution. And if you have fallen in love with a racing bike classic: we will carefully and competently restore what you have found in the attic. If you want to lend a hand yourself: From spare parts and accessories to tools, we have a lot on hand. Everything at fair prices.
From the very beginning, it was important to us at the Mütze to offer selected cycling-related things that we appreciate and use ourselves. Clothing in which you look good on and off the bike, safe helmets and stylish shoes. Simply everything that makes cycling better, easier, safer and more beautiful. Not to be forgotten: The cycling cap in all variants, for summer and winter.
We also offer cargo bikes from the Copenhagen brand Omnium, which, with their agility, perfectly match the cap's philosophy. Youngsters and parents will be happy about our extensive range of KuBikes, high-quality children's bikes in many sizes, colors and equipment. For anyone who likes to do their own work, we have an extensive range of accessories, spare parts, tools and consumables at fair prices. It was important to us right from the start to offer selected bike-related things in the hat that we appreciate and use ourselves. Clothing in which you look good on and off the bike, safe helmets and stylish shoes. Simply everything that makes cycling better, easier, safer and more beautiful. Not to be forgotten: the cycling cap in all variants, for summer and winter.
In addition to all these things that you can touch, try on and buy, there is something else: The meeting point Mütze. We are happy about the cyclists who stop with us on their tour. Who start or end their trips with us and strengthen themselves in the café.
And then there are our own events and efforts around cycling. In addition to the classic tour, which we have also exported to the neighborhood in recent years as part of the "Cologne Classic", we offer a wide variety of tours for racing cyclists: For example from March to October a relaxed after-work tour called "MI6 - Wednesday at six" . From November to February we inspire the weatherproof cyclists with the Winterschlampenparade. In addition, we have had the Rapha Mobile Cycling Club as guests several times in recent years, the Giro Di Caffè, we have been on the road with Porno Al Forno, Brooks, Carhartt WIP and David Millar, and we have tours together with Biehler Cycling, Listnride, Wahoo, Cafe Du Cycliste and many others organized.
We took care of “Rund um die Kö” with the U-Lock Justice crew and the boys and girls from Fixedpott and with the local colleagues from “Life is a ride” and with RAD RACE and the Hardbreakers in the Mütze films watched. Our gravel rides under the title “Schotter, Kies & Moss” meanwhile offer many connections to our classic tours. Both as part of the recommended Dusseldorf bike fair Cyclingworld in the Dusseldorf area or with the BSV Profil Hürtgenwald club in the Eifel, whether as an organized group tour or as a GPX-based route for teams or individual riders, the Mütze makes the difference. We look forward to meaningful and creative cooperation with everyone who enjoys well-done events.
Since 2021, another format has been added with Querfeldrhein, a weekend in October at the great Düsseldorf horse racecourse, which pays homage to cross-country sports in the form of cyclocross races and gravel rides. Here, too, we tried right from the start to put on a contemporary event with our partners CCD and DestinationX, which is a brilliant advertisement for sporty cycling and makes many people happy between the Pole Cross-Bundesliga and children's races.
Under the name "Schotter, Kies & Moos" we have organized a series of local gravel events that show that it is possible to find attractive gravel routes with a length of 60 to 120 kilometers even in the metropolitan area around Düsseldorf.
From January 2023 we will enter into a new partnership with the Dixsept team, which may lead to new formats in the Düsseldorf cycling landscape. First of all, we're going to start very casually and, alongside the Bulle bakery and the Schvarz roastery, we're represented with our logo on the team's stylish jerseys.
But it's not just sporty tours that appeal to us, we're also happy to help support developments in transport policy relating to cycling. A reasonable infrastructure in Düsseldorf is important to us, if only because we travel by bike so much ourselves. With the Schicken Minna we have launched a free cargo bike project for Dusseldorf, which picked up speed last year. Together with the Dusseldorf Open Source Festival, we have brought the New York Bicycle Film Festival to our hometown and are looking forward to further events between music, film, art and culture that we can link to the topic of bicycles.
If you are in Dusseldorf, stop by. We are happy to see you.
